Larian’s developer AMA of 9 January 2026 adds practical details about Divinity’s co-op, companion relationships and combat rules. Following the cinematic reveal, the answers begin to explain how the shared adventure is intended to work.
Launch Co-op, With Mod Tools Not Yet Dated
Technical Director Bert (u/Bert_Larian) confirms co-op as a launch plan. Player count depends on the final party size, with planned mods intended to allow extensions. Gameplay lead Artem (u/Artem_Larian) also confirms modding tools, explicitly saying their arrival at launch is undecided.
Relationships Within the Party
Senior Writer Kevin (u/Kevin_Larian) wants companions to form deeper relationships with each other beyond additional conversation. Friendship and romance with the player should develop more gradually and naturally. The relationship explainer distinguishes these connections.
A Concrete Departure From Original Sin 2
Design lead Nick (u/Nick_Larian) confirms that its magic armour system will not carry over. The new turn-based ruleset should provide protection without placing interesting abilities behind a damage barrier that first needs breaking. Larian is developing a system intended to make repeatedly stunning a lone boss with level-one skills more difficult.
Bert describes a camera combining top-down and third-person views, similar to BG3. These answers establish intentions and individual rules, rather than a complete gameplay manual or release date.
